My companions and I were a lot like that too. We still are. People have started accepting us more as they recognize our part in stopping the war... [which is the whole thing, pretty much, but he's too shy to brag about his accomplishments to a stranger] ...but prejudices don't die that quickly.
I do think of them as my family, just like your brothers are your family even if you're not all related by blood. Those bonds say a lot more about you than your race or anything like that, right?
