Here. [And that's when Mithos gets the small package offered out towards him, the tin of cookies resting atop it. Maybe it'll distract him from the fact Frey wasn't suppose to be here.

[Nice try. His glare flicks down to the offered package briefly, confused, but then it's back on Frey. He doesn't move.]

Then why are you here? [To...give him something? But why?]

[Hey, he didn't plan on getting caught. But he's sure Mithos knows what a present is.]

It's called Christmas.

[He's still holding out the package.]

[Christmas... He remembers how last year he had been so enthralled by the holiday, seeing it through the eyes of a child. He did not know a lot about it, but it was a day for celebrating loved ones, for being close to others, and back then he had wanted nothing more than that.]

...I have no reason, nor any desire, to celebrate. [He tries to sound like a stone, cold and hard and solid, but on the inside he's hollow.]

I see.... It isn't a holiday that exists where I come from, but I have taken to celebrating it a little in Luceti. [He's still holding out the gift. He's well aware that Mithos is likely not to be eager to celebrate or even be involved in the holiday, especially with the absence of those he cared for.]

Are you still willing to accept a gift, at least?

[No. No, he doesn't want to accept any gift from Frey, he doesn't want to accept that Frey wants to help him, he doesn't want to--] Will you leave me alone if I take it?

I did not plan to be here long.... I didn't even plan to be seen. I just thought that no one should be completely alone on such a holiday.

[And a gift, even if he didn't know the recipient, would at least mean someone was thinking of him.]

[Completely alone... The words echo through the cavern around his heart, and the sharp ache is a familiar companion. A companion he hates as much as he hates anyone else in this world.] This day is no different from any other...and you being here makes me no less alone.

[But he stiffly takes the package from Frey's hands.]

[He didn't mean to make it sound as horrible as it did.... even if it was the truth. He knew Mithos wouldn't see the need to celebrate, but it still was difficult to see all the celebrations with family and friends and not feel some degree of yearning to see those you cared for that were not here once more.]

I suppose it does not....... but thank you for humoring me.

[This would be the part where he drops some acrid parting remark and shuts the door in Frey's face. Except before he can open his mouth, the small elf that has been pestering him for days comes frolicking over, having wriggled out of the closet where he was tossed. Its movements are lurching and demented, and there's really no reason that it shouldn't lose its balance. It cries out:] "Hey, cakesniffer! Why ain't you baking those cookies like I asked you to!"

[It skips underneath his legs to peer up at Frey; Mithos glares down at it.] How many times do I have to tell you? I don't care.

[Frey raises an eyebrow slightly at the elf, wondering at it's odd demeanor. It seemed.... off. Just a little. The elf that had taken to following Frey gives a cheery wave to it's brethren from it's perch on the porch step.]

So there is one following you too, then? It seems like almost everyone in the village has been given requests by them.

[The elf gives an odd little wave to Frey's elf, wiggling his fingers. Mithos's eyes return to Frey, cool and hard.] Killing it did nothing. A new one appeared shortly after, and it was only more annoying than the last.

[As if suddenly remembering the brutality his charge is capable of, the elf slowly backs away. He cowers and twitches and looks like he's trying not to tremble.]

[He looks just a little disappointed by that. Sure, it was probably some sort of shifted creature, but that didn't make it any less intelligent.]

What does it matter? [In a twisted way, he wants Frey to be angry with him, to incinerate his futile attempts at festivity.]

It's a bit extreme for something like this. You could have simply ignored it.

[Disappointed? Yes. Angry? No. Because now that he's heard it, he isn't as surprised as he knows he should be. Mithos taking out his annoyance and anger on things seemed to be a trend.

Perhaps that was worse, though.]

It wouldn't leave me alone. I refuse to listen to the endless and pointless demands of an elf, even if it's nothing like a real one. [If the stupid requests and sickening cheer hadn't already been enough, Mithos hated it from the instant the creature introduced itself as an elf.]

While I'll agree they seem nothing like the elves I've met, height most of all, it was still uncalled for. You could have requested it leave you alone, or simply avoided it.

It doesn't listen. [He flicks the knife's blade out, still idle at his side.] At least this one doesn't follow me around like the first two. [And he flicks the blade shut again. A sharp glance over his shoulder tells him that the elf has pathetically retreated down the length of the entryway hall.]

You killed two?

[....And with that blade, he'd guess. He wasn't sure how to feel about that.]

Why are you so surprised?

I suppose I should not be..... but was there truly a need for you to do so?

I already told you--

[Except before he can finish saying what he already said, there's a crash from within the house. Mithos turns to appraise what exactly happened, but he can't tell from here. However, he can guess the cause of the crash.] That worthless...!

[He stalks dangerously down the hallway, leaving Frey at the door, and the door wide open.]

[Frey has a good idea, too, having already dealt with some minor mishaps the elf that had taken to following him had caused. He doesn't even think twice before following Mithos quickly and quietly down the hallway, concerned about what sort of reaction this will provoke.]

[In the kitchen, the silverware drawer has toppled out and the floor is littered with forks, spoons, and knives - in the middle of the mess sits a dazed little elf. Judging by the way other drawers jut out, Mithos guesses the elf had been using them to climb up to the counter. The stupid thing had seemed to think that was a good idea a few other times. Stuck to the elf's pointy hat - and fluttering to the floor - are a few of the yellow sticky notes Mithos had saved from Sayo's apartment.]
