What is it, Kaori? [trying to be gentle, but the worry overpowers it]

Well... [She turns her head away from him, trying to think of what the best way would be to tell this to him. It was just a little strange, because so far everyone in Luceti who knew of her blindness had found out without her consent, and back home it had been her adoptive father who told those she would have to work alongside with... Therefore she has no experience to draw on for this.]

You haven't noticed at all?

[Noticed...? Mithos thinks back to the strange behavior she had displayed earlier, other little hints accumulating... He gives her a searching look, trying to fit pieces together.]

...You have trouble seeing. [half a question, half a statement]

[He figured it out right away, so it... doesn't necessarily make telling him easier, but it's quite a burden off her shoulders. It would make reaching the truth that much easier.]

It's... it's more than that, Mithos. [She closes her eyes, a small, very sad smile on her face.] ... I can't see at all. Not for years.

[Now he's staring in shock, forgetting all about helping her back up, just loosely holding onto her upper arm. She can't see...at all? Nothing? But that sounds so...]

...Aren't you afraid? [to live in a world that hates you, with the handicap of never knowing who could be nearby or even where you are...]

... All the time. [For all the reasons he thought of and more. Her memory of when she first woke up blind after having been in a coma is one of the few she has out in her open consciousness, even if all there was to that memory were sound and paralyzing fear.]

I... I've always been scared of the dark, y'know? So... even though it's been a long time, waking up in the morning is still scary.

[More than he did already, he wants to protect her. To keep her safe and brush away at least some of the fear.]

I...can't even imagine that. I don't know what I would do. [here, he reaches down to firmly take one of her hands and pulls gently up to guide her to her feet, his other hand still grasping her arm.] ...You're really strong, Kaori.

... You think so? [She didn't hear that very often, so when it does come up she always has to question it. SHould it really be considered strong that she has such a vulnerable weakness?

Despite these thoughts she accepts his help in standing up, even though she could have managed on her own. For some reason, it felt okay to depend on Mithos' help, when any other time she would have lashed out at a person for the same feat.]

[He nods, before realizing she can't see that] Yes... I think I would have given up, in the same situation. [Could he have even become 'Mithos the Hero'? With the guidance of his sister, and his former companions, perhaps. But after Martel was taken away, after hope was drained from the world...]

... But I don't want to give up just yet, Mithos. [According to Seirou... it was still possible for her to regain her sight, though she still couldn't understand what he meant when he told her how. Even though she did give up at one point.]

But I'm still scared, y'know? And if I try to give up... it just gets scarier.

I wonder, which is scarier...to give up or keep trying... [Isn't that why he gave up his path as a 'hero'? Because he was more afraid of losing his sister than he was of letting the world fall into ruin... He shakes his head.]

Still, you're definitely strong, living each day like that and wanting to keep going no matter what. [and he also wonders...does this mean he's the more broken of the two? He isn't sure what to make of that.]

[He may say that, but there are many times she wonders if it really is her being weak by trying to ignore her fears about being blind. It leads her to being closer to people than she would like to be, and becoming closer as well. SHe wished she could give up.]

... But I have you now Mithos, right? That.. it'll make it easier to get through every day because I have you here as my friend.

[She always seems to know what he needs to hear...]

[He can't help but smile warmly, doubts and anxieties smoothed over. He's impressed by her strength, and at the same time so, so afraid for her, but...]

...Yes. You have me, and I'll do everything I can to protect you, Kaori.

Thank you so much, Mithos. [For his friendship, for his kindness... For everything. He was the friend she needed in this world that was so confusing and at times, frightening.]

It's nothing. [but he's happy to hear that. Really happy, in spite of everything. He likes that she makes him feel less lonely, and he wants to make her feel safe in return.]

He turns his gaze to look around the area.]

[Kaori nods in agreement, mindful of keeping her senses heightened as much as possible; she had never noticed how much she had come to rely on them until her first draft.]

[Even though she won't say it out loud at this moment, that knowledge leaves her with a warm feeling. She really is needed, isn't she?] Then... let's go forward together, okay?

['Forward'...'together'... Those two words seem to resound through him.] ...Of course.
