[He's struggling to grasp why this is so different from anything else he's felt. Then, as she smiles and snuggles up against him, the answer is clear. It's simple, isn't it? It's because she understands, like no one else has. She's the friend he never had before, the friend he'd always wanted. Someone he'd always needed.
Irreplaceable.
Everything with her feels new and different, like colors that nobody knew could exist before. It makes a little more sense... With his free hand, he lightly fingers a strand of her hair.]
[Though she was used to people running their hands through her hair, and even enjoyed it when they did, something about Mithos being the one to do it made her shiver then blush faintly, though she didn't find herself minding it at all. Making a soft, content noise she nuzzles into him again, but not before reaching for one of the thinner blankets on her bed and pulling it over them.
After that she wraps an arm around him herself so they could be even closer than they already were while focusing on the hand in her hair.]
[It's hard to focus on just one thing - her content sigh, her arm around him, her body so close against his, the softness of her hair. He isn't whole. But right now, with her, he feels closer than he has in a long time. He keeps stroking her hair, knowing how comforting it was when the same was done to him.
[If Mithos had been expecting no reaction from touching behind her ear he was dead wrong; there's a sharp squeak quickly followed by a deep blush colouring her face while her eyes widened in shock, the rest of her suddenly clinging to him tightly while she struggled recover from the unanticipated gesture and the amount of warmth it had ignited within her.
Soon enough her tight hold is accompanied by shivering as she tries to calm herself down, and if Mithos were to look at her face he would clearly see the amount of confusion she held right now, as well as how flustered he had left her with that single touch.]
I-I... [Oh Sorrows please make her blushing stop, it was already overwhelming enough that Mithos had touched her there and she had no idea how to react. Of course he wouldn't know what it meant to touch there, right? But that didn't change how she felt about it or the growing warmth in her body.]
[Much earlier, Freyjadour had heard a yelp come from Kaori's room, and becoming concerned, he'd tried to enter.
...Of course, this proved rather difficult with the experiment making any door he entered send him to a different portion of the house, but worried and determined, he just kept trying.
Finally stepping into the right doorway this time, his words of concern die on his lips at the scene he encounters. The sight of Mithos, pressed close to Kaori in bed, holding her, with a very obvious blush on Kaori's cheeks and a surprised look on her face at that, made for a very disturbing scene indeed.
Mithos might have three seconds total to explain himself. Might, before that hand gripping the doorknob far too tightly reaches for him instead.]
[He spends his allotted three seconds fumbling to sit up, but it's difficult with a Kaori clinging to him so tightly and he can only prop himself up on an elbow. His face is as red as hers now. The moment, meant to be shared between only them, is effectively snapped in two.]
I...I didn't do anything...! [Did he? She had started acting strangely, but...?!]
[Well if he wants to sit up properly she's not necessarily clinging to him now. As soon as she hears Frey's voice Kaori wastes no time in letting him go, even going so far as to sitting up and placing enough space between them, or at least not touching Mithos anymore. Her hands instinctively pull down the long sleeves of the shirt she had been wearing, making sure the leaves at her wrists were still covered before they swiftly move to cover the ones behind her ears, wondering if the two could see them right now.
Just... pretend to pout, yes. That should work, right?
[He's stepping forward, his eyes going from Mithos to Kaori and back again, watching her.... fix her clothes? What had he been doing, to make her react so? It's taking quite a bit of willpower to not simply march over and yank Mithos out of the bed, but he'll forego that now that he's no longer touching her, at least.]
[Despite his embarrassment, he feels a sharp pang of disappointment when he realizes that Kaori has put space between them. It feels like a gulf. He misses the warm fleeting sensation that she's his. But he sits up to better deflect Frey's assault of questions.]
It's none of your b--! [--no, even he knows that's not the right answer, if Frey seriously thinks he's done something to harm Kaori.] We were just laying down.
[What did Frey think he had been doing? Memories from last February slip unexpectedly into his mind again, and his face feels hotter, and there's a blurry sort of confusion inside him. That's not...?]
I'm fine! [Okay, so maybe she squeaked that out and it only makes her blush all the more. And it wasn't technically a lie, aside from the intense amount of confusion and the growing sense of discomfort with the entire situation. Though really, what wasn't going to be awkward about your brother finding you in bed with a male friend?]
[An accident...? What was an accident? He turns to look at Kaori, sinking deeper and deeper into confusion by the moment. He's still trying to push away knotted February memories of sharing a bed with someone else in a very different manner, and wondering what the difference is. His eyes linger on her, but he tears away to answer Frey.
Except he doesn't know how to answer. He's still a flustered shade of red, but he forces his voice into something controlled and terse.]
I touched her hair. [It hadn't been an accident; he meant to do it, because he thought it would feel nice. It was a normal gesture of affection, wasn't it? His sister pet his hair all the time, and Sayo did too sometimes.] Do you have a problem with that, Freyjadour?
... He touched my leaves. [Can she go die in a hole with how mortified she is right now? Please say yes, because having to tell your brother you friend has practically groped you and doesn't even realize he has is warranting enough blood rushing to her face that she's starting to feel a little dizzy, and her face is actually a vivid red compared to the usual pink that happens. The amount of heat radiating from her as well must really be something, at least she doesn't sweat very easily or this likely would have been ugly before Mithos had even had a chance to defend himself.
But she's still sending a look in Frey's direction which clearly begs: please don't murder him.]
[He touched her...... Oh. He remembered, distantly, a rather awkward conversation about those... leaves. A very, very awkward topic indeed and one that had left him quite confused but at least aware of what they were. His eyes widen slightly at her confession, the pieces coming together.
Even though he now knew what Kaori had meant by 'accident' he looks rather angry anyway. He doesn't plan to murder Mithos, no, but he is acting on his earlier impulse and reaching over, yanking Mithos out of the bed by his shirt collar with a glare. The more distance right now, the better, he thinks. Mithos had just done something that was downright rude, though Frey could assume from Kaori's words it had either been a mistake on his part or he had not known.
He's actually showing some self restraint, here.]
I do, actually. Perhaps you should keep your hands to yourself unless given explicit permission, next time.
[His tone softens from the angry tone he'd used with Mithos as he faces Kaori once more, concerned.]
[He lets himself get yanked up by Frey, too bewildered to resist. Stumbling to his feet, he swats at Frey's hand. He hears the warning, but it's background noise - his eyes are on Kaori again. The terseness in his voice breaks down to raw confusion.]
Did...I do something wrong? [He could overlook Frey overreacting - he knows the human doesn't like him - but he doesn't understand Kaori's strange behavior. Leaves? What is she talking about...?]
S'fine! Just... an accident. [You know what, Frey? She's leaving the explanation up to you, because she's having a hard enough time trying to not focus on the lingering feelings or her own confusion.
At least it wasn't the leaves at her wrists, that would have been worse.]
Do you wish for me to remove him? [In all honesty, Mithos shouldn't even be here.
His grip on Mithos is a bit tighter then necessary, causing the cloth of his top to dig into his neck, but he does let go at the swat. As long as Mithos wasn't in a position where he might continue to make her uncomfortable, he was willing to let him stand on his own.
The tone of his voice leaves no question as to it being an accident, and that's enough for Frey to not kick him out immediately. In all honesty, Mithos should probably get an explanation so that this didn't happen again, but......
Well. He didn't know how, let alone if Kaori wanted him to explain. His tone is terse as he gives the only explanation he's sure won't cause extra embarrassment for any of them.]
That is why I say it is better to ask what is permissible, so such accidents are avoided.
[Better yet, just don't touch her like that at all.]
[His eyes are still directed at her.] I'll...I'll ask next time, Kaori. [Frey can think what he will of him. He says this only for Kaori's sake - if he did something wrong, he doesn't want to make the same mistake again, even if it wasn't his fault. Except...he doesn't know what that mistake was. Leaves? He touched her leaves... But what did that mean? His face stays red, the color of mortification.
Even through his confusion and embarrassment, he tries to enjoy these last glimpses of Kaori for the night. Because he gets the feeling that Frey isn't going to let him stay, even if she wanted him to. She did still want him to stay, right? She had asked him, but...if he made a mistake...? Annoyance at everything swells up in him.]
